Kelly has been involved with the horse industry for the past 18 years. She began riding at the age of 9 in Fredericton, NB. At the age of 12 she began training with "A" circuit coach and trainer Kerri-Ellen Chalmers and started competing in hunter and equitation. Kelly started riding jumper classes at 13 years old in which she successfully competed in until the age of 19. She has received champion and reserve champion awards at competitions around the Maritimes, and has also succeeded in winning numerous provincial awards for New Brunswick for her divisions.
Kelly went away to university in 1999 to earn her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Animal Science. She attended classes at the University of Calgary for two years then moved to Truro where she finished her degree at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.
In 2000 Kelly began teaching riding lessons at Camp Catherine Capers, a prestigious summer camp for girls located in Southern Vermont. She became a Level 3 English riding instructor qualified to teach through certification with the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA), which is the largest instruction certification program in North America. She taught riding lessons and theory classes to all levels of riders at the camp for 3 years (an average of 4- 5 lessons a day), and also managed the herd of 50 horses. She was also very involved with program development, taking the children to shows, and had a large part in selecting horses for camp use.

Throughout the years, Kelly has worked at a variety of stables involved in a wide range of disciplines. She also worked in Lambourn, England at a 90 horse yard and there she exercised young Thoroughbred racehorses.
